Obama Calls Out Corporations: President Barack Obama criticized corporations that move overseas to avoid paying U.S. taxes late last week. He said it’s unfair for those corporations to evade tax laws, regardless of its legality.

Canadians Bring Water To Detroit: Water rights activists from Canada arrived in Detroit last week with hundreds of gallons of water for those whose water has been shut off due to unpaid bills. The activists brought the resources to highlight how Detroit Water and Sewerage Department’s is violating human rights by not providing access to water.

New Laws Take Effect: Five state laws take effect today, including the state’s first minimum wage increase in nearly a decade.

U No Longer Safety School: Record numbers of applications to the University of Minnesota have allowed admissions counselors to be more selective when accepting applicants, therefore making the U a more competitive school overall. Officials say the increase in applicants revokes the University’s previous “safety school” title.
