First we heard about gangsters in White Bear Lake, and now we learned how East Grand Forks thrived at Whitey’s Café, Restaurant, and Bar! Apparently East Grand Forks was once a Saloon town. Because North Dakota was “dry,” the liquor trade boomed in Minnesota, making the nightlife lively in border towns like East Grand Forks. Maybe Paul Bunyan even stopped in East Grand Forks for some refreshment!
Whitey’s celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2000, and we can certainly see why it has lasted so long! When we ate there we had ____ and it was delicious!
