ABM Launches New Ad on Emmer’s Missed Votes
Saint Paul, MN – Alliance for a Better Minnesota
Action Fund
is launching its fourth ad this election cycle highlighting the voting
record of Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer. The ad is
focused on Emmer’s missing more than 140 legislative votes in 2010 alone
— more than 20 percent of total votes taken that year.
The ad features Minnesotans talking about what would happen to them if they missed one out of
five days of work — or 20 percent of their working days.
“We need a Governor who will show up and work on behalf of
Minnesotans,” said Denise
Cardinal, Executive Director of Alliance for a Better Minnesota Action
Fund. “Tom Emmer missed 20 percent of votes taken in 2010 — most of us
would get fired if we missed that much work.”
The television ad
is running statewide with more than $500,000 of time purchased for the next two weeks. Accompanying the ad is the website www.MissedVotes.com,
which features a running tally of the votes Emmer missed, along with a
space where people can submit what would happen to them if they missed
that much work. The best answers to the section will be shared with the
public on the site later on in the week.

about Emmer’s record can be found at: http://TomEmmersMN.org.

On May 11, 2010, Emmer skipped all six votes on amendments to the K-12 policy and finance bill, as well as the vote on final passage. The bill created a scholarship for students that graduate early, created a foothold for broader alternative licensure programs, creates a regular evaluation process for teachers, cuts $737,000 from the state education department without making school cuts, and allows local governments to renew expiring school levies without going back to voters.
