House Republicans have named Mary Franson chair of the new Subcommittee on Childcare Access & Affordability.
Reminder: just a few years ago, she compared low-income food stamp recipients to wild animals.
Childcare costs in Minnesota are among the highest in the country, but Franson’s unwillingness to help working families is troubling. A part time waitress herself, she opposed raising the minimum wage, supported a tip penalty for service workers, and even voted against paid family leave – a benefit that would allow workers to spend time with a new baby or take care of ailing loved ones.
Minnesota kids and parents don’t deserve more Republican lawmakers accusing them of being lazy or not working hard enough. They deserve respect and solutions.
