It’s been a big week, Minnesotans, so let’s jump right into it. Here are the worst, most head-scratching, most WTF actions taken by Minnesota Republicans this week.
Voting against gender equality (and then some)
“Equality under the law shall not be abridged or denied on account of gender.”
That’s the statement that the Minnesota House voted to add to the ballot in 2020, letting Minnesotans decide whether to include it in the Minnesota Constitution. It’s an Equal Rights Amendment, and an important step toward gender equality.
This measure passed in the House, but not without opposition–and pretty strange suggestions–from some Republicans.
Seeing a lot of “no” votes by the Republicans’ names 👀👀👀#mnleg https://t.co/WWzcfXx4cn

Republican Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen of Glencoe had an issue with the word “gender” and took to the mic to attack transgender Minnesotans.
While the #mnleg debated #MNERA, Republican Glenn Gruenhagen took the time to attack transgender Minnesotans.

During a conversation about the importance of ensuring gender equity, Gruenhagen decided to spin the conversation to push hurtful, outdated rhetoric. And he wasn’t the only one. Other Republicans tried to add anti-choice provisions to the bill.
While DFLers are taking concrete steps to create a better Minnesota for women and girls, Republicans continue to alienate and hurt women in Minnesota, and continue to push regressive, hurtful rhetoric.
STILL voting against gun violence prevention measures
Minnesotans want common sense gun safety measures. That’s why DFLers have authored two bills to keep our communities safe, which are now making their way through committee. Republicans voted against them. Again.
STILL holding election security hostage
Every state in the country, except one, has authorized federal funding to ensure safe and secure elections. The only state that hasn’t yet, sadly, is Minnesota.
Why? Because Republicans in the Minnesota Senate continue to create delays and shortchange our state. What do Republicans have to lose from secure elections?
Protecting the super rich, not hardworking Minnesotans
Minnesotans could have spent this week working on measures to keep Minnesotans safer or securing our elections. Instead, Republicans continue to prioritize tax giveaways for the super rich.
Deleting a poll when they didn’t get the response they wanted
I guess Republicans are only interested in listening to Minnesotans when it suits their divisive agenda ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Minnesota Republicans are leaving women behind, jeopardizing the security of our elections, and failing to protect our communities, all while bending over backwards for the incredibly wealthy. We need to stand up and let them know what really matters to Minnesotans. Find out who represents you here.
