For many Minnesotans, the American Rescue Plan stimulus checks provide a lifeline. Or, at the very least, an excuse to treat ourselves a little extra at our favorite neighborhood businesses that need our support right now. Either way, they’re a necessary part of our recovery as we build back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s why it’s so unfathomable that all of Minnesota’s conservative members of congress voted against them.
Standing in the way of our recovery
Representatives Pete Stauber, Jim Hagedorn, Michele Fischbach, and Tom Emmer tried to block the American Rescue Plan that includes your stimulus checks, as well as support for schools, small businesses, renters, working families with children, vaccine rollouts, and more. Throughout this pandemic, conservatives have tried time and time again to shortchange our communities. They’ve tried to slash the programs that Minnesotans rely on.
Luckily, our progressive leaders in the House and Senate have our backs, and President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law. But conservatives’ attempts to stop the plan show that we need to stay vigilant and hold them accountable.
Letting young Minnesotans down
President Biden’s American Rescue Plan includes several measures that support Minnesota kids and their families. But still, all of Minnesota’s conservative members of congress voted against it. They voted against an additional child tax credit that will benefit over 1.5 million young Minnesotans. Additionally, they tried to block the funding that our schools need to get our kids back to class safely. It’s unthinkable that conservatives would leave Minnesota kids behind when they need our help more than ever.
