During the first 2024 Presidential Debate, Donald Trump once again highlighted his extreme plans to roll back reproductive rights and cut taxes for large corporations while working families pay the price.
When asked about his stance on abortion rights, Trump bragged about overturning Roe v. Wade, which eliminated Americans’ constitutional right to abortion, saying the decision was a “great thing.” Donald Trump also touted the billions of dollars in tax giveaways he passed for America’s largest corporations while President.
Donald Trump Wants to Rollback Reproductive Rights
As president, Donald Trump was responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade, which opened the door for Republicans in states across the country to ban and criminalize access to abortion care
Since Trump overturned Roe v. Wade, fourteen states have enacted near-total or total abortion bans, including Minnesota’s neighbors in North Dakota and South Dakota.
And if Donald Trump and Minnesota conservatives get their way, Minnesota will be the next state to ban abortion.
Minnesota conservatives have a decades-long history of trying to ban abortion. Between 2005 and 2022, Minnesota conservatives tried and failed to ban abortion 32 times. During the 2023-2024 Minnesota legislative session, Minnesota conservatives introduced one abortion ban and five abortion restriction bills that Minnesota progressives blocked.
Donald Trump Wants to Cut Taxes for Large Corporations
While corporations were making record profits during his presidency, Trump slashed the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%, the lowest corporate tax rate in eighty years.
In the first five years of the Trump corporate tax giveaways, 87 of the most profitable corporations earned cumulative profits of $950 billion and paid an effective tax rate below 10%, a lower marginal rate than a worker making $45,000 a year pays.
After slashing the corporate tax rate by two-fifths, Trump and conservatives promised companies would boost wages and jobs. Instead, corporations went on a massive stock-buyback spending spree, gave their executives huge bonuses, and kept worker wages flat.
We Need to Hold Donald Trump Accountable
Minnesotans want to keep abortion safe and legal and need a leader who will put working families, not wealthy CEOs and corporations, first. Donald Trump’s extreme, anti-choice policy agenda has no place in Minnesota.
