In the wise words of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, “these guys are creepy and, yes, just weird as hell.”
That’s an observation that many of us share. Between the sexist blather, awkward moments, and confusing gaffes, Donald Trump and JD Vance have left lots of Minnesotans feeling a little… unnerved.
Here are some of their weirdest moments on the campaign trail so far:
1. Trump’s long-winded speech at the RNC
In the 92 minutes it took for Trump to give his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention–the longest in the convention’s history, you could watch March of the Penguins in its entirety and still have time left over to make popcorn.
But what did he spend those 92 minutes talking about, anyway? Lies, mostly.
2. “Kamabla”
Yeahhhh, we have no idea what it means, either. A synonym for “covfefe,” maybe?
3. JD Vance’s bizarre vendetta against people without children
We have so much respect and admiration for Minnesota’s caring and hardworking parents. But not everyone is prepared for or interested in the responsibilities of parenthood. And that’s okay! The choice to have children should be just that: a choice.
JD Vance, however, begs to differ.
During his career, he has called people without children “deranged,” “sociopathic,” and “childless cat ladies.” He has even proposed that people without children should be stripped of their right to vote.
Not only is that deeply unconstitutional, it’s a really weird thing to suggest.
4. Their creepy obsession with Kamala Harris’s race
Kamala Harris, like millions of Americans, comes from a multicultural family.
She was raised in California by an Indian-American mother and a Jamaican-American father. That means that Harris’s cultural heritage is both Black and Asian. It’s not that complicated.
…unless you’re Donald Trump.
For some reason, Donald Trump has made it his mission to convince voters that Kamala Harris isn’t “really” Black. Seriously.
This headline from Mother Jones sums up the whole ordeal pretty well.
5. JD Vance being super awkward on camera
Like the time he actually started a sentence on live TV with, “Obviously (my wife) is not a white person, but…”
Or the time his “joke” about Diet Mt. Dew totally bombed.
Or the time he couldn’t think of a reason anyone would want to have a beer with him.
