5 Things Minnesota Conservatives Don’t Want You To Know.

1. Minnesota Conservatives Want to Ban Abortion and Roll Back Reproductive Rights

Already this session, MN conservatives have introduced two new bills to ban abortion. House File 25 and Senate File 1650, the companion bill in the Minnesota Senate, would partially defund abortion-providing organizations like Planned Parenthood.

The bill would direct grant money only to far-right organizations that pressure women to carry their pregnancies to term. The bill specifically prohibits grant money from going to organizations that provide abortion care. Current recipients, like Planned Parenthood and rural local health agencies, would lose critical funding, affecting women across Minnesota.

2. More than 85% of Minnesota Conservatives Support Trump’s Plan to Slash Health Care and Funding for Medicaid

A letter published by a handful of conservatives in the Minnesota Legislature revealed that more than 85% of Minnesota conservatives support Donald Trump’s bill to gut access to health care, Medicaid, and social services while handing out trillions in tax breaks to big corporations and the ultra-wealthy.

Medicaid serves 1.4 million Minnesotans, or about one-quarter of the population, including 650,000 children and 125,000 people with disabilities. The Trump-backed budget to slash Medicaid funding would devastate families across the state and take away Minnesotans’ ability to see a doctor when they are sick, obtain the medication that they need, or afford home-based care or nursing home services near the end of life.

3. Minnesota Conservatives are Attacking Trans Kids in Sports

Minnesota conservatives have already introduced six bills this year attacking trans youth. The bills use unscientific, ideologically motivated criteria to narrowly define womanhood and ban trans girls from participating in school sports. Every child deserves a chance to play sports at school, and denying trans girls these opportunities is harmful to their physical and mental health. Restrictions on trans participation in sports also subject all women and girls to scrutiny about their bodies and violate existing non-discrimination protections in Minnesota.

Anti-trans policies exclude a segment of the population from equal participation in public life, and they open the door to further efforts to erode the civil rights and protections afforded to trans people. Minnesotans value dignity, fairness, and freedom. These bills are out of step with our state and serve only to divide our communities.

4. Minnesota Conservatives Want to Roll Back Paid Family and Medical Leave

Minnesota conservatives introduced a bill that would repeal Minnesota’s paid family and medical leave program before it can take effect and start helping Minnesota families in 2026.

Unfortunately, many Minnesotans don’t have access to paid time off when they or a family member is in need and are forced to choose between going to work sick or not being able to pay their bills. The Paid Family & Medical Leave law would ensure Minnesotans can take a day off when they or a loved one is sick.

5. Minnesota Conservatives are Pushing Trump’s 2025 Agenda

Minnesota conservatives are following the lead of Trump and his Project 2025 agenda. Medicaid cuts, banning trans girls from sports, and restricting access to abortion are all agenda items outlined in Project 2025

Minnesota conservatives and Project 2025 are also trying to direct what can be taught in schools. Minnesota conservatives are attempting to repeal ethnic studies requirements, ramp up parental involvement in school curriculum, and ban books they deem inappropriate. Project 2025 is the blueprint for all of these ideas.
