On Tuesday, February 25, conservatives in the United States House of Representatives, with support from every conservative in the Minnesota delegation, including Pete Stauber, Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach, and Brad Finstad, voted to pass a budget resolution that would slash Medicaid and SNAP, denying thousands of Minnesotans access to health insurance and food assistance.
A letter published by a handful of conservatives in the Minnesota Legislature revealed that more than 85% of the Minnesota GOP support Donald Trump’s plan to gut access to health care, Medicaid, and social services while handing out trillions in tax breaks to big corporations and the ultra-wealthy.
It’s clear that conservatives in the Minnesota Legislature overwhelmingly support Trump’s plan to slash Medicaid and gut access to health care and social services while giving tax breaks to his billionaire friends.
Medicaid serves 1.4 million Minnesotans, or about one-quarter of the population, including 650,000 children and 125,000 people with disabilities. If enacted, this plan would devastate families across the state, leaving them without the essential support they rely on.
This latest effort to gut access to health care is one of the many Project 2025 tactics pushed by the Trump administration since he took office in January. Already, Trump and conservatives have worked to roll back reproductive rights and abortion access, called for cutting the Department of Public Education, fired hundreds of thousands of essential federal workers and pushed for trillions in tax breaks for billionaires.
