Trump and Minnesota conservatives are attacking our reproductive freedoms
Minnesotans have always stood up for one another. And when Donald Trump led the charge to overturn Roe v. Wade and the fundamental right to abortion, Minnesota progressives passed laws to protect Minnesotans’ reproductive freedoms and protect women traveling to our state for safe reproductive health care.
But now, Donald Trump wants to ban abortion nationwide, and Minnesota conservatives are on board. This year, conservatives in the Minnesota Legislature have introduced legislation to ban abortion statewide and defund organizations like Planned Parenthood that provide reproductive health care to millions of Minnesotans.
These extreme bills would direct grant money only to far-right organizations that pressure women to carry their pregnancies to term. The bill prohibits grant money from going to organizations that provide abortion care. Current recipients, like Planned Parenthood and rural local health agencies, would lose critical funding, affecting women across Minnesota.
These latest attacks mean that Minnesota conservatives have now tried to ban abortion thirty-four times since 2005.
Trump wants to ban abortion nationwide and gut reproductive health care for Minnesota families, and Minnesota conservatives are doing all they can to further his efforts.
Progressives are standing firm against these conservative attacks
With Donald Trump geared up to further his attack on abortion care, contraception, and family planning, it’s more important than ever that Minnesota remains a beacon of access to abortion and reproductive health care in the Midwest. That’s why Minnesota progressives are fighting to reduce barriers to sexual and reproductive health care, such as birth control, fertility services, pregnancy, and abortion, while protecting the freedom of Minnesotans to make their own health care decisions, including gender-affirming care.
Progressive leaders in Minnesota passed the PRO Act in 2023 to protect reproductive freedom in Minnesota. The PRO Act codified the right to contraception, the right to carry a pregnancy to term, the right to fertility treatment, and the right to an abortion in Minnesota. Progressives are fighting to ensure that conservatives don’t roll back these essential reproductive rights because they understand that building a better Minnesota means empowering doctors and patients to make the best possible health care decisions together.
Help Us Hold Conservatives Accountable
We’re thankful to live in a state that values bodily autonomy and the fundamental right to abortion. And we’re grateful to our progressive leaders for taking bold action to codify abortion rights and protect patients and physicians from other states.
But the ongoing attacks from conservatives on abortion rights are unacceptable. The resilience of those fighting for reproductive rights is fundamental to women’s history. With conservatives attacking our reproductive rights like never before, our resilience must persevere.
We need to hold conservatives accountable for trying to take away our reproductive freedoms so that we can continue to build a better Minnesota for the years to come.
