A federal budget bill just passed the US House of Representatives, but its conservative supporters don’t want you to know what’s in it.
Why don’t they want you to know?
The bill includes enormous tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations that are paid for by taking health care away from working-class Americans.
Medicaid Cuts
House Speaker Mike Johnson went so far as to lie on national television, claiming that conservatives “are not cutting Medicaid.” The language in the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” says otherwise. The bill would cut health care benefits from an estimated 8.6 million people – including 230,000 Minnesotans. Many people would also lose access to gender-affirming care and abortion services.
Trump told reporters that conservatives are “not doing any cutting of anything meaningful.” But Medicaid is meaningful to millions of families across the country and in Minnesota who rely on it for health care.
This also marks the second time this year that every conservative in the Minnesota congressional delegation, including Pete Stauber, Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach, and Brad Finstad, voted to slash Medicaid and SNAP. And more than 85 percent of conservatives in the Minnesota Legislature support Trump’s cuts to Medicaid.
Benefits to the Ultra-Wealthy
This bill is being pushed through to benefit Trump, his billionaire friends and the wealthiest Americans all while working people pay the price.
In Minnesota, the top 1% will see the vast majority of tax cuts from the bill. Ultimately, the bottom 20% of earners will likely experience a decrease in their spending power.
All of Minnesota’s congressional conservatives were willing to trade their constituents’ well-being for tax cuts for the rich.
Fight back with us.
Conservatives in Congress are using their power to line the pockets of corporations and billionaires like Elon Musk, instead of supporting working families. Join us to hold them accountable for their actions.
