You’ve probably heard that the federal government has shut down. Make no mistake: Donald Trump and conservatives in Congress are responsible. Donald Trump and conservatives in Congress want to cut millions of dollars in health care funding to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy and large corporations. These cuts will leave millions of hard-working Americans without health insurance and will raise health care costs for millions more.
This reckless shutdown has real consequences for Minnesota. It threatens access to essential programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and will make it harder for families to get the services they rely on every day.
Minnesota is home to 35,000 federal workers. That means that tens of thousands of Minnesotans could be furloughed or forced to work without pay, including Social Security employees. Travelers at MSP International Airport may face delays as TSA agents and air traffic controllers work unpaid. The 13,000 members of the Minnesota National Guard will have their training programs paused, and cities like St. Paul and Minneapolis are scrambling to cover housing and community programs that depend on federal dollars to stay open and running.
We need to hold these conservatives accountable
It’s unacceptable that Donald Trump and conservatives are willing to sacrifice our health care and public programs so that the rich can get richer.
Minnesotans deserve better. Sign up to help us do the work and get involved in the fight back.
