While corporations continue to raise prices on Minnesotans, Donald Trump and conservatives in Congress are pushing for trillions of dollars in tax breaks for big corporations and billionaires like Elon Musk at the expense of Minnesota families.
To pay for this multi-trillion-dollar tax giveaway for corporations and billionaires, Trump and conservatives are planning to slash food assistance programs and Medicaid, which would take health care away from hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans.
Here’s who wins and who loses under Trump and conservatives’ budget plan:
The Winners: Billionaires and Big Corporations
Trump and conservatives’ budget plan includes the largest billionaire tax cut in U.S. history, paid for by gutting Medicaid and food assistance programs.
This tax break would benefit the richest 1 percent of people. In Minnesota, total tax cuts for the wealthiest 1 percent of people in 2026 alone would amount to $1.54 billion.
Under this budget plan, money that could otherwise be used to fund rural hospitals struggling to stay open, Medicaid, and food assistance programs will instead be handed over to line the pockets of the wealthiest people in the history of the world.
The Losers: Minnesota families
Medicaid covers essential, lifesaving health care for 1.4 million Minnesotans, including pregnant women, seniors, children, and people with disabilities. This means people can see a doctor when they are sick and obtain the medication they need.
Trump and conservatives’ budget plan would slash Medicaid and could take away health care from over 250,000 Minnesotans.
Additionally, Trump and conservatives’ budget plan cuts SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), which provides food assistance to over 440,000 Minnesotans, including children, seniors, and adults with disabilities.
Cutting food assistance programs like SNAP means less food on the table for families already struggling. And reduced access to nutritious foods that people need to live healthy and full lives will lead to Minnesota kids being at risk of hunger and developmental setbacks, and higher rates of chronic conditions that will further increase the strain on our already stretched health care system.
Fight Back
Minnesotans quite literally cannot afford Trump and conservatives’ budget plan.
We’re already struggling with big corporations raising prices, and this budget plan, along with Trump’s tariffs, will make things even worse by forcing people to pay more for health care, food, and utility bills.
We can’t let Trump and conservatives get away with this. Sign up now to help us fight back.
