Introducing Our New Intern!

It’s summertime again, and that means we’ve hired a new intern, Beth, to work with us over the summer. One of the things we’re really excited for Beth to start helping us on is blogging, but until she has her own login information, I’ll be posting her blogs on my account. Without further ado, I’ll turn it over to Beth:

Hello Everyone,

My name is Beth and I am a student at Hamline University. I have joined the ABM staff as an intern for the summer. I will be contributing to the blog and keeping tabs on our legislators in effort to keep them accountable.

I have two goals for this summer: to learn about the operations of a nonprofit, grassroots organization and to push forward the progressive agenda. I feel like Alliance for a Better Minnesota is the best place for me to achieve these. I’ve been here only a few weeks but already have realized that the staff are passionate and motivated. They want to make the world a better place, and so do I. It can’t get much more perfect than that.

This first post is supposed to introduce me as a real, flesh and blood human. However, I’m terrible at writing about myself. So I’ve employed the help of multiple interest surveys and have picked a few responses to share with you:

What is your favorite type of animal: Cats! They tend to have the most personality, even if they aren’t always happy with their human.

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? Cinnamon. From Sebastian Joe’s. Which is really a treat since I’m a broke college student.

What are you passionate about? Equality and justice.

Who do you admire? Harvey Milk and Paul Wellstone.

What do you value? Honesty, hard work, and family.

What is a recent movie you enjoyed, and what did you like about it? Super 8 was amazing. JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg teamed up to tell a thrilling, and relatively tear jerking, storyand they presented it beautifully. Everyone should experience it in a theater.

What is your favorite place to be and why? On Lake Superior. I’ve spent every summer, and many winter breaks, up on the lake. I can’t imagine any place more beautiful in the world. I feel lucky that it’s in my backyard…well, almost. Add a couple hundred miles.

What are two common activities you do after getting home from class? I take off my shoes and have a snack.

What wish do you have for someone else? That they find peace and happiness.

I will be regularly posting on the ABM blog. Feel free to comment if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for blog-topics.

Until next time,

Beth
