Top Aide to Speaker Daudt, GOP Rep Show Blatant Disregard for Unemployed Minnesotans.

After months of stalling from legislative Republicans, led by Speaker Kurt Daudt, Governor Dayton announced this week that due to Republican intransigence the special session to extend unemployment benefits for laid off Iron Range steelworkers and address other important issues would have to wait. Republicans claimed victory having halted special session, even though 2,000 steelworkers were laid off in 2015.

This morning on Twitter, the chief aide to Speaker Daudt displayed the disturbing disregard that Minnesota Republicans have for out-of-work Minnesotans, specifically those on the Iron Range. It’s a disaster any time Minnesotans lose their jobs, but citing that Old Country Buffet closings merit a “real disaster” casts a spotlight on the priorities of Minnesota Republicans, which put their corporate backers first at the expense of working families.

I daudt that Iron Range families found this social media exchange amusing.
