Why we’re grateful for the USPS.

Whether by executive order or Twitter, Trump has relentlessly attacked many of the institutions and organizations that Minnesotans respect and rely on. Recently, he’s turned his attention to the United States Postal Service, threatening to deny much-needed funding to the post office.

Besides the fact that this attack is a blatant attempt by Trump to stop people from safely voting by mail, there are lots of reasons to love the USPS. Here are just a few:

-The United States Postal Service employs 630,000 people in the United States, including 75,000 mail carriers

-It’s guaranteed by The Constitution. The authors of the U.S. Constitution added the Postal Clause to Article I to facilitate communication between the states. Post offices have been delivering letters and packages to people across the country ever since.

-They process over 427 million pieces of mail every day and deliver more mail in 24 hours than many countries deliver in an entire month.

-It’s the only parcel delivery service that guarantees service to every person at every address in every city. That’s why 91% of Americans support the Postal Service. Without the USPS, many people in rural areas would struggle to access important mail and goods.

Thank you, postal workers!
