MN Progressives Just Passed Paid Family and Medical Leave!

Updated May 25, 2023: Progressives in the House and Senate passed the Paid Family and Medical Leave bill, and Governor Tim Walz signed it into law!

Minnesota progressives in the House and Senate just passed landmark legislation to provide Paid Family and Medical Leave for Minnesota workers.

Unfortunately, many Minnesotans don’t have access to paid time off when they or a family member is in need and are forced to choose between going to work sick or not being able to pay their bills.

No one should have to choose between a paycheck and their health. Whether it’s for a new baby, an unexpected illness, or an aging parent, Minnesotans deserve time to care for themselves and their families.

Under this bill, Minnesota will establish a state-administered paid leave insurance program, where everyone contributes and everyone benefits.

Progressives have been working for over a decade to pass Paid Family and Medical Leave but were road blocked by conservatives in the Senate who put the interests of wealthy corporations over the needs of families and workers.

Now, with a historic class of legislators, a historic budget surplus, and a historic progressive trifecta, the time is here to take bold action for Minnesota workers.

Now, the bill is headed to a conference committee where the details will be solidified before it heads to Governor Walz to be signed into Minnesota law! We’ll keep an eye out and let you know the important updates.
