The most anticipated debate of the year is here. Our very own Governor Tim Walz is set to take on the extreme conservative Senator JD Vance in a vice presidential debate. What should we expect from this debate between two very different characters?

What Should We Expect From Governor Tim Walz?

Tim Walz may be new to this debate stage, but that will be unlikely to rattle him. Walz is known for his humble, regular Midwestern guy energy, which he will likely lean into in the debate. Walz will be able to highlight his successes in Minnesota, including the free school meals program he signed into law, his efforts to protect our reproductive rights, and the fight against corporate price gouging. Walz has been a leader in protecting reproductive rights across the state and country. Governor Walz signed historic legislation ensuring the right for every Minnesotan to have bodily autonomy and make their own decisions regarding reproductive health care. He also protected and expanded access to abortion care.

What Will JD Vance Bring to the Debate Stage?

JD Vance will undoubtedly portray some weird qualities on the debate stage. 

Vance will also likely tout his extreme plans to roll back reproductive rights across the country. Vance has said he “certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally.” And his presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has repeatedly bragged about overturning Roe v. Wade. This will undoubtedly come up in the debate.
