Lisa Demuth Wants to End Universal Free School Meals

Lisa Demuth doesn’t believe that all children should receive free school meals – even though universal free school meals have had a positive impact on kids across the state since being implemented in 2023. The program saved Minnesota families over $265 million in the first year, helped students try new foods, and increased exposure to fruits and vegetables. 

Lisa Demuth voted against the free school lunch bill in 2023 and stands by it. While kids continue to thrive off access to nutritious foods, Lisa Demuth wants to take us backward. 

Lisa Demuth Wants to Underfund Public Schools

Lisa Demuth’s education plan would opt Minnesota into President Trump’s national school voucher plan, sending taxpayer money to unaccountable private and religious schools. Despite public schools serving about 90% of Minnesota kids, Demuth’s priorities are aligned with private schools and the ultra-wealthy.

Lisa Demuth Won’t Protect Kids from Gun Violence

As the Minnesota House Speaker, Demuth blocked a gun violence prevention bill that would ban deadly assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines, and provide more funding for school security and mental healthcare. 

Demuth promised the parents of one of the children killed during the Annunciation school shooting that she would not block the bill. She lied.
