Progressives are Making Historic Improvements in Teaching and Learning in Minnesota.

Progressives in the Minnesota House and Senate just passed a budget that makes record investments in Minnesota public schools! The next and final step is for Governor Tim Walz to sign it into law.

Governor Walz and progressives in the Minnesota Legislature have worked tirelessly this legislative session to make Minnesota the best state in the country for kids.

So far this session, progressives have passed a bill making school meals free for Minnesota students, a budget that allows students with a household income under $80,000 to attend Minnesota colleges and universities for free, and so much more.

With this new education omnibus bill, Minnesota’s teachers, students, and schools can look forward to additional support, resources, and funding.

The bill includes unprecedented investment in school-based mental health and student support personnel, including nurses, counselors, workers, psychologists, and other student support jobs.

And multiple measures to increase the number of teachers of color and teachers licensed to work with students with special needs.

Governor Tim Walz is Dedicated to Minnesota Public Education

As a former public school teacher, Governor Tim Walz understands the value of a good public education.

During his first term as governor, Walz signed the biggest education funding increase in two decades, raised teacher pay, expanded access to pre-K, and worked to get kids safely back into their physical classrooms and keep them there during the pandemic.

And under Walz’s leadership, Minnesota ranked as the best state in the country for women and kids during the pandemic.

But that work hasn’t come without a fight. Year after year, Minnesota conservatives have tried to underfund our public schools and block efforts to support teachers and students.

Thanks to a historic class of legislators, a historic budget surplus, and a historic progressive trifecta opening the way for big and bold investments across the state, our progressive leaders can lead the way for Minnesota schools and students.

More good things to come for Minnesota

With only a few days left of the legislative session, we can’t wait to see how Governor Walz and the progressive leadership at the Capitol will continue to work together to invest in our communities and build a better Minnesota.
